There’s nothing more profitable in sports betting than the NHL back-to-back bet. What is the back-to-back bet you might be wondering? Easy. It’s when a team plays a game today, and then plays again tomorrow. (Back-to-Back) It’s even better when the back-to-back team is on the road. Yesterday we saw the second game of a back-to-back for the Blackhawks. Or did we?
On January 16th, we saw the Chicago Blackhawks beat the San Jose Sharks – we actually had the Blackhawks that night because the Sharks are pretty bad team, and oh by the way, the Sharks were just coming off a back-to-back, travelling from a Buffalo to Chicago with a 3-0 loss.
On January 17th the Blackhawks were supposed to have a back-to-back in Buffalo and we bet that the way should have, Buffalo -1.5. Unfortunately, snow was an issue and so was safe travel. The game was postponed by one day and the Blackhawks seemingly got that one day of rest we were trying to avoid. But other factors in play, kept the game feeling like a true back-to-back situation.
The snowy travel probably ended up in a nightmare travel day for the Blackhawks and on top of that, they had their worst goalie in the net for their game on the 18th. So spirits were still high!
As predicted the Blackhawks lost 3-0 to the Blackhawks last night and we cashed!
So, should we ALWAYS bet against the team having a back-to-back? No, of course not. This was a dream scenerio though. A very bad team (the Blackhawks) with a very bad goalie (Arvid Söderblom) on a snow-impacted back-to-back of sorts, was a perfect storm for a perfect win!
Adding insult to injury, the Blackhawks travelled from Buffalo last night back to Chicago for a 7:30pm game tonight against the New York Islanders.
I know what you’re thinking, “Let’s hammer the Islanders tonight!”
It’s not quite that easy, the Islanders are just as bad as the Blackhawks and tonight, they might be worse.
“But Lord Maxximus, the Islanders are 19-15 and have an extra day of rest! Let’s hammer the Islanders!”
To that I would say, the Islanders are actually 19-15-10…I don’t really love the way they display over all records…I don’t need to know they lost 10 times in overtime play this year, but in this scenario it actually helps us with tonight’s wager.
The Islanders have Ilya Sorokin in the net tonight and he is 1-6 in his last 7 starts and is currently on a 3 game losing streak. If you look at your sportsbook, you will see that giving the Blackhawks +1.5 tonight, makes the Blackhawks a respectable favorite. (-120).
So should we chance it?
Because, you know, the Wild are on a back-to-back tonight in Florida.
